Sunflower surprise

I walked into Kroger the other day and spied sunflowers in the sale bucket. I decided to treat myself.

When I lived in Germany I often walked down to the marktplatz to buy fresh flowers, especially sunflowers. My little flower shop would take your selections and wrap them in the most beautiful paper and tie them raffia. 5 marks. Those were the days before the Euro. That generally translated to about $2.50 back then.

And the price tag at Kroger- $2.50. Marked down from more than I usually spend on flowers, or anything for that matter.

Here are those flowers still smiling at me- 2 weeks later.

Photograph taken just yesterday.

Treat yourself.
Remind yourself.
Surprise yourself.

Oh, you just made me smile. My all time favorite. I had a small patch last summer. My dream is to have an entire acre of them on the farm. Enjoy! You deserve the treat!

Love sunflowers! The first summer here, we had a giant sunflower that bloomed in the corner of our property. We didn't know what it was. We kept refering it as "that Little Shop Of Horrors plant"...it was so huge! I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a sunflower!

Very pretty sunflowers, so cheery and happy... Being from Germany, I know what you are talking about, when you talk about buying flowers on the Marktplatz. We used to do it all the time... I really miss that...

Kroger is the only place I buy flowers. They last forever. And the clearance ones are just as good as the ones at regular price.

Another great post, thanks. I too love sunflowers. Recently I saw somewhere a picture of pink sunflowers and would love to get my hands on some. I did not know that you could get pink sunflowers.
