Texas Ware Bowls...

Saturday was one of those special thrifting days. Things seemed to be waiting on the shelves just for me. While still giddy from my quilt theft, I found this as the next store.

And BellaMomma can vouch for my excitement...as I ran to her waving it in her face. She had not made it to the kitchen isle yet and well, I had.

A vintage Texas Ware confetti bowl. And....it was .35. It's the smaller size. This one makes three for me and I adore them. They are great pieces to have in your kitchen. I use mine ALL the time. They were made famous as the Rachael Ray garbage bowl.

Here is the blue that I already had.

I did a little research and found out something I didn't know. Apparently the confetti pattern was produced at the end of the manufacturing day with all the leftover colored melamine from that day's production. How fun is that?

Do you own a Texas Ware bowl? You have to keep an eye out for these. They are the best.

Still more to come...

I had no idea what it was. My MIL has one and I bet she doesn't know either. Have to let her know next time we talk...

I received one of these for a wedding present about 40 years ago - but I've never seen a cobalt blue one - I'd love to find one in that color.

My goodness Kim - you certainly can find the bargains. Great bowl for 35 cents. In California our thrift stores don't have prices that good! You are so lucky.

Please take me shopping with you! I was at Salvation Army today, and I thought of you, I kid you not. I was looking for MY $4 quilt! Actually I'm roasting my own coffee beans now, and looking for a hot air popcorn popper! I didn't find one, but I did find a few very sweet vintage hankerchiefs.

I'm calling shenanigans though, you find way too much cool stuff!

I have to admit that I'm not familiar with a Texas Ware bowl...great buy for 35 cents. I had to go back and read your post about the quilt...I echo the sentiment that the $4.00 price was insane!!! My mother has made several of these cathedral quilts and they are very time consuming...yours looks beautiful on the bed with the light streaming through the window.
This is my first time visiting..I found you through The Tattered Cottage....I'll be back.

Funny story, I bought my mother one of those bowls at a garage sale when I was little. She used it for years. She gave it to me and I used used it for at least another 14 years until my eight year old painted the inside of the bowl with a paint brush that I was using in the kitchen. I was heart broken. They are the best bowls every. But, paint doesn't come off of what ever they are made out of.

I look for these all the time, but never find a 'good' deal on them like you do. They're usually in the $25 to $35 range. My mother in law always served mashed potatoes in a pink confetti one so now I'm trying to find one for my son who has fond memories. Have a nice day! Twyla

Came across your wonderful blog while doing a search for Texas Ware bowls! My husband had one before we were married - at some point it broke. It was his "popcorn" bowl (yes, he eats A LOT of popcorn!) Anyway, I'm so disappointed to find out they are such collector's items! Hope I can find a deal like you did! :)
