Potatoes, Betty and Minne"soda"

I wasn't sure what to write about this evening. It's been sort of a blur. You know from my last post that I have company for a few days. We had a nice evening. I decided to go ahead and do some prep work for tomorrow night's dinner. So, I peeled 10 pounds of potatoes to go with the 5 pound roast. Before you think I am having 20 people over- don't fret- just six folks that like a lot of leftovers. Mom-in-law has already mentioned a doggie bag. I'll give her one after we pass the hat!

So, I was wondering tonight about the little things that I caught myself doing in the kitchen. In my family we have a strict rule that when you peel and cut up a potato you MUST cut yourself a slice, smather it in salt and enjoy! Are we the only ones that do this? I remember being little and waiting with my brother in the kitchen for my slice of raw potato. Oh, it's the best. I know Mom still does it too.

Then Betty and I did some cooking. No, not my mother-in-law. I am referring to Ms. Crocker. She bakes with me a lot. Tonight- vanilla cake a la box with buttercream icing. So, this leads to another MUST in my family which I know you all do- licking the bowl. Come on, I know you do it. The beaters too, admit it. You might even just scoop out a spoonful when no one is looking. Hey, at least I am not using my finger! Tonight I shared all this with dear hubby and his face lit up like a 5 year old. Nothing better.

Well, I guess I should have been taking pictures in the kitchen tonight. Sorry, Betty is very camera shy. Instead I will leave you with more images of beautiful Minnesota. Ya, that's a good idea.

Oh YA, I love the beaters after making chocolate chip cookies. Usually I'll stick some chocolate chips on them to make it look like they just happened to be there, eh? Oh wait ... eh is Canadian. Damn it! That's what I get for attempting regional humor.

Beautiful photos of Minne-soda eh! Yeppers we here eat a piece of raw potato! My daughter is always at the counter (even now that she's 20 waiting for a piece). And that goes for licking the bowl and beaters too! Yummy!

Thank you for the compliments on my bag! It was fun to make!

Have a great day!!!

Yes, yes, yes...I admit, I lick the beaters and now and again run my finger through the thick raw batter! A lesson taught to me by my mother. Who cares if there is raw egg in it either! ;)

Love your story and the photos! Ya, Minnesota is gorgeous!! Nice fish, too!

Cake and cookies just don't come out right if you don't eat some batter/dough. The salmonella will get me one day. LOL
Beautiful home in Minnesota.
Enjoy your MIL while she visits. I know she'll enjoy someone else cooking ;-)

I have never ever heard of anyone eating a raw potato...the things I learn in blogland. I'll have to give it a try next time I cook them. I also am a beater licker...cookie dough, cakes, etc...I know the raw egg thing...buy I've been doing it for 40 plus years and it's soooo good!
