Not too shabby

Things around the farm are a little shabby.

Chipping paint and weeds galore greet you at every turn. Sometimes it bothers me.

I want to call off for a week and power wash and paint. And you know I'm totally delusional when I think I could possibly accomplish something like that in a mere week. Heck, that I could even accomplish that at all. I can't even get the kitchen painted.

And don't even get me started on the weeds. That would require a sabbatical. Possibly early retirement.

But sometimes I look around and it works.
Yes, I say to myself.
This is totally the look I'm going for.

It's sort of shabby chic on a grand scale.
It works.

It's still charming to me! (No one can see the weeds from the road, anyway!) Don't stress yourself out!

You see, it really is how you look at things. This look is totally working here.

Oh, it works for me, too. I saw a whole farmhouse today that was ALL chippy, and if I could have, I would have stopped and photographed it! I love your pics here today, they're lovely!

Old farm houses and chipped paint go together, just like farms and weeds. I think your place is very charming and just perfect!

I love the chippy paint....the weeds don't bother me at your place...at our farm...I don't like weeds...and I spend a lot of time getting rid of them! lol Hope you have a wonerful weekend....stop over and say hi! :)

Yeah, but chippy exterior paint lets in water ... it's just one of the things we old house owners have to constantly keep on top of. Windows here need some scraping and painting before winter. I feel your pain.

Weeds? This has be a super extraordinary bumper-crop year for weeds. I have some in my rose field that are 7-feet tall? I pull what I can, carefully use Round-up on the rest, and try to make some progress. Your pain duly noted here, too.

Grand indeed! I love every perfectly crafted chip and the weeds? When you have a view like that, who cares about a few weeds! Just stunning.

I too think it's wonderful!!!! Chippy paint is part of the charm of an older piece of property! I actually prefer a more natural, organic form of landscaping as opposed to the overly planned and fussy landscapes most homes have these days - even when the weeds get tall it still looks great.

I agree with everyone. It's happy, it's lived-in, it's comfortable and approachable. It's like a welcoming apron-wearing grandmother standing on her front porch with arms opened wide. It's home. Love it.
