This a family recipe, a poor folks meal as we say. I wish I could tell you it's some secret family recipe that I would not dare divulge here. Nope. Elbow noodles, fried onions (sauteed for you gourmets out there- fried for us Southerners), and the secret sauce- Ketchup! That's it. I know, I know, but I swear it is the best. Not exactly fancy but it is so good and I have been eating it my entire life. Upon the first bite I immediately felt nourished...full...rested...relaxed...and happy. What is your favorite comfort food? Do you have a weird family recipe like this? Better yet- is there anyone else out there that makes this very thing?
I have to tell you that the Recipe Beginnings chopped onions above are the best thing...since sliced bread as they say! Literally they were the difference between my comfort food and ramen noodles last night. Also, don't you love the green depression glass bowl? Only .99 at my favorite thrift store a few weeks ago.
Hanna is headed our way this weekend. They are calling for some wind and rain here in central Virginia. I think that might call for more comfort food.

my favorite comfort food is grilled cheese with tomato soup. that's an interesting dish you have there. never heard of anything like it. i love fried noodles. hope you don't get too much rain or any of the hard wind.
Well my comfort food is fresh butterbeans and cream corn...oh I just love my fresh veggies, nothing better.
I was thinking GA might get some rain but only calling for 30%, however you know how weathermen can be at times. Now Ike is really scaring me...seems like a poweful thing right behind that lady...Might be why she is turning more away from us...anyway take care!
We have got to be long lost family members or something because I grew up on the stuff. My mother was raised in Louisa County before moving to Richmond (and then Tidewater), she was a Seay and an Atkins. OMG, I never talk about these meals because most people just don't understand. I am totally floored!!!! Love the depression glass. Stay dry and safe this weekend.
My current comfort food are those awful Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings...bad dumplings...bad.
I think my comfort food is goulash...our version is so simple. That with bread and butter. I could use some comfort food today!
We have the remnants of Gustav blowing through today. Mostly wind with a bit of rain here and there. Hope Hanna isn't too bad!
Sorry you had a stressful day yesterday! Hope today is a whole lot better!!!
Hugs!
Kim
Never in my life have I seen that recipe. Interesting! Hmmmm. :) Fun blog - I love it!!
From the latest discussions I have looked at and NOAA which knows things first...the storm is trying to intensify just a little...we will be in the NE quadrant of the storm where the brunt of the storm is, so it is more likely to give us the isolated tornadoes, driven rain, winds and storm surge potential...it is coming in at high tide...and there is not much difference between a strong tropical storm and a Hurricane 1...I am sure you will be fine where you are and I am ready for it whatever it brings...should be fun!
I can't think of a weird family recipe off hand - it'll probably come to me later!
And I just have to add that I'm such a Disney fanatic that I spotted a "Hidden Mickey" in your first photo!
Sounds very interesting - have never heard of that recipe!
I don't know what my favorite comfort food woul be - I like all food too much!
You have such a fun blog.
My comfort food is Baked Potato Soup. Yummo.
oh your comfort food sounds nice, i'm gonna try that, I bet my kids would love it! my comfort food is cheesy pasta with lots of butter and Parmesan, has to be made by Mr BeachCottage to be a true comfort food for me!
love those salt and pepper pots you found and all your other thrifts, I just love looking at what people have found in thrift stores lol

I did not know you could buy chopped onions like that! i hate chopping onions, so those would be great! Can't beat comfort food. And yep, I'd say with a hurricane headed your way you might need more. Hope you stay safe and the weather doesn't cause you any damage.
I am going to have to give this dish a try! It sure looks yummy.
Hmmm...my comfort food would be a good homemade mac and cheese or chili and cornbread. Rue, over at Rue's Peanut Butter and Jelly life, has a good chili recipe right now. Looks great!
You know, nothing beats Southern cookin'. I grew up eating that way, too.
hugs,
Becky
PS: Hope the weather is being nice to you. I hear it is storming up there.
We like grilled cheese dipped in ketchup. When my kids eat that in a restaurant we get the weird looks!
Similar but not the same. My mother never met an onion she liked haha. Our version has scrambled eggs mixed in. And definitely ketchup on top.
Through my husband I was introduced to the joy of onions and will definitely add that to the family recipe next time.
