WARNING: This post contains actual pictures of a (pretty) spider! Ordinarily I would be clicking away at this point so I understand if you leave and come back tomorrow. We've all been buzzing about Fall and all the amazing things it ushers into our lives. I'd like to take a moment to discuss the less appealing creatures the cool air sets in motion.
Spiders.
I have a mild case of arachnophobia. Sort of mild. Screaming and running sort of mild. Frozen with fear heebie jeebie sort of mild. However, there seems to be one exception- the garden spider. One has moved into the bush beside my back deck and I was so excited to see her. Yes, excited. No screaming, no running, no cold chills up my spine. Now, this is all contingent upon her staying in her web and me staying perched 5 feet away with my zoom lens. There are conditions. We have an agreement.
Here she is. Her name is Charlotte. Come on people, what else do you name a spider?
I hesitate to say that she is actually quite pretty. I remember in elementary school watching one all Fall in her beautiful orb web in the window of our den, right over our air conditioner. Ironically, her name was Charlotte as well. However, I also remember the big brown ones that scurried through the house starting in September. Mom said she saw one the other night so big she thought it was a mouse. Shiver. Chills. Heebie. Jeebie.
I do not hesitate to tell you that the longer I spend on this post and look at the picture above the more the heebie jeebies are setting in. Okay. I am scaring myself now. Nice Charlotte.
This post is dedicated to all the hard working, creepy crawly, bug eating spiders out there. Out there. Outside. You don't bother me and I won't bother you.
Have you made it this far?

Yes, PLEASE stay outside. I took Fisher for a walk the other morning and shut my front door. When I turned around to let Fisher know we could start walking there was a huge FROG chilling horizontally on my FRONT DOOR. I screamed. Anything that can jump or appear out of nowhere (a la a spider) FREAKS me out!
Ooooh, I just dont know what to say! ANY kind of spider, big or small, pretty or ugly - NO THANKS!
We had 2 of them a few years ago in a flower holding bed, needless to say I made Jason MOW the garden down, even the flowers!
Ewwww!!
I made it but not without some heaving and goosebumps and shudders. I appreciate the spiders in my garden and know that they are good but I hate when they come into the house. I just look at them and think, now why did you have to come in, you know that means it's you or me and it ain't me! xo, suzy
Sorry, I'm just not feelin' the love.
Oh my - that is a big one!
Hubby and I sat for 15 mins one time this summer watching a spider weave a web on our deck - it is amazing. Then hubby would catch months for him to eat and throw them into his web! It was so funny.
I was fine until I saw the spider photo. I love Charlottes Web. My son decided when he was little that all dog's should be named Joey.
Thanks for the chills!
Marlene
I have to admit, I read this one with one eye closed. :)
Oh yuck! They really need to stay outside where they belong! I don't think I can take another brown recluse this year or ever for that matter in my house. I'm sure you know that spiders stop me in my track and make me scream! I did make it through your post though. BUT I am now looking around and making sure there are no spiders in my vicinity!
Hope you have a great Friday!!!
Hugs!
Kim
This is too funny...I just took some pictures of a garden spider (named Charlotte of course) in my flower bed, the other day. I was going to do a post similar to this with it...'ya beat me to it! Great minds think alike! BTW, did your Charlotte start shaking the web violently when you approached?
Ugh, I'm with you, I HATE SPIDERS! I scrolled down really fast past the pictures and back to the text so that the spider wasn't on my screen anymore! I can't handle them!
eeewwwww! she needs to just scurry away. i am really leary of spiders now with what happened to higgins. i never really noticed or worried about them before.
EWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I freak around spiders - any size!!!
Got the willies here my friend!

Yikes! I usually discover the spiders in my yards about a second after I walk into their webs by accident! Great pics and yes, I got the hebbie jebbies...which means you take great pics! :-) Susan
