Into thin air

I know I sort of disappeared. But I've been here. I've definitely been here. My disappearance was more into thin hair- than thin air.

Into thin air

Thyroid. I thought about calling this post Roid Rage and I still might use it later. The nurse at my doctor's office will tell you that is a more appropriate title. She called on Friday to tell me that my thyroid is under active. It's about the only thing on me that's under active- my imagination and stress level right now are through the roof. And I definitely need to STOP
Googling. How about a prescription for that?

I can take the lack of energy.
Headaches. Weight gain.
But the thinning hair...FREAKING me out.

Luckily before any of this started I had enough hair for four people. There is still plenty left for me. And if you saw me you'd probably never know. But I do. I totally get that whole crown and glory saying now.

So, I wasn't sure if I was going to share any of this, but here I am and here it is. I'm guessing there are probably plenty of you that are dealing with stuff like this.

This is just my time. And that's okay. And I'm okay. And I'm back. And I missed you all.

Good Morning Sweetie...
I am happy to see you this morning. What a story you have to share today.

I have to tell you it must be in the air. I have read several stories of late about bloggers having problems with an under or over active thyroid and they have lost hair. I am praying it will grow back for each and evry one of you.

Will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Have a beautiful day sweetie.

Country hugs...Sherry

Hey there sister Kim V! I have no thyroid any more and suffer the effects of underactive thryoid levels quite often! Sometimes my meds need adjusting. I am due for a recheck since I have been running very low this year. Way too many not great symptoms except for the monthly thing being nearly non-existent...I can live with that one!

Take it easy and get lots of rest! Hope you're feeling better soon!!!

Hugs!!!
Kim

Gosh, Kim, I'm sorry! It is hard to throw something like this out there...when stuff like this happens, the last thing you want is either sympathy or someone applauding you for your 'brave' face...blah, blah, blah. I can tell you I get you 100% with the thin hair business. From age 16-19 I had not a speck of hair on my head....I lost it all....and now that I just had a babe, it's falling out like crazy and I was wondering if it was the third time in my life I would lose it all again. I'm REALLY GLAD to hear that they figured this stuff out with your thyroid...you will get your hair stuff under control. I promise. You won't be a bald babe....!In the meantime I love the Nioxin shampoo for a lil bit of hair loss....it's pricey, but it is really good...especially for that nasty, dead hair breaking off stage before it wants to clump out.

You will do great....yes, it's your time, and it will make you understand what people go through waaaaay more....really understand, not just 'hear' what they say.

Take care of yourself...there will be a lot of people rooting for you and I'm sure praying for you.

Hugs in your direction...

I have hypothyroidism too. I was diagnosed just over a year ago when I noticed that I wasn't feeling right and I was always sad.
Everything is copacetic now, though. The meds work great.

sorry to hear. You'll be good soon though. Once you get the dosage right on the synthoid then you'll be back to normal. They discovered my thyroid didn't work at all about 14 years ago. Just don't forget your medicine...don't even forget one day!

I don't know much about thyroid issues, but I do know that I miss you when you're gone. Miss your photos, your musings, your sense of humor.

You'll be in my prayers for feeling back to the old you.

google- it's a love/hate relationship. i think in someways it was better when we just took what the dr. said, and remained clueless about the rest.

i've dealt with quiet a few physical issues in the past few years (endometriosis- had a hysterectomy when i was 33, intersticial cyctitus, and a few others. ergghh). it can be as emotionally exhausting as it is physically.

here are my suggestions...
worship instead of worry.
seek God's face and ask for him to be glorified through you.
remember God doesn't give grace for your imagination (don't let your imagination run wild with "what ifs") HE DOES GIVE GRACE when you need it.

may our good God go before you and behind you.

Kim, it took years for them to figure out that both my thyroid and my adrenal glands were screwed up! Like you I have enough hair for several people, but it's still no fun to see a handful of your own hair each time you shampoo it! Hang in there babe, it WILL get better!

Must be somethin' in the air...I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism about two weeks ago. I hear ya sista & totally relate. Haven't noticed a difference in my energy, lethargy, fatigue, etc but I've heard it can take a while to dial in the meds. On that note, I'm going to go take a nap!

Oh goodness, glad you can blog about it. I have experienced this from both sides as patient and nurse. Medication and frequent lab work will get it right and you will be better. ~olive

Great to see you back. You do have a way with words---'thin' air/hair. Wishing you the best with treatment and reversing the situation.

Oh honey, my thyroid gave me fits a couple of years ago. I was on medicine for a year and it leveled out. The last few times I have had it checked, it was fine. So, while it is awful to deal with... perhaps yours will be like mine and get fixed:)

Have a blessed day and welcome back!

I didn't know that was a symptom. I've taken the meds for that. Mine always straddles the line on the test. But don't think I've lost any hair. Glad you shared it. Bound to help someone else, as these things seem to do. If you think you have roid rage now, wait until menopause. You're in for a real wild ride then.

Hang in there - as a previous commenter said, once you get the dosage right, you should be fine. I hope you are! And oh - since no one told my poor sis this for 10 YEARS of taking thyroid meds, you must take them on an empty stomach at least an hour before eating. Best of luck!

Ok I'm going to say it again and its probably already been said on here about 500 times...but stop worring abou tit..You have to stop worrying or it will get worse. Take it from a retired and tired hair dresser. I have seen this many times and it will stop with the meds and you will feel alot better too. You probabkly have no idea how run down you really are. You will see what I mean when the meds kick in and you are up at midnight still cleaning and organizing. It is a slow crippling thing to the body until the physical appearence symptoms start to show up. most folks have no idea and think they are just tired. Sorry you have to deal with this, hope you are all better soon.
Wish I had some of your hair. Mine has been so fine and thin my whole life that my ears poke through it most of the time.
Blessings to you,
Shanda

I wish I had a reason for my thinning hair, my thyroid levels are in the normal range, seems it is the aging/hormone thing...not much one can do about that...just have to accept it along with sagging & wrinkles...oh, well I still have hair so that's okay. Sounds like you'll be good with the meds.

I can add my two cents that once your doctor gets you on the right medication level, your symptoms will diminish or go away completely. I was amazed at how much better I felt in so many ways when my doctor discovered my hypothyroidism (I have Hashimoto's) and got me back in balance.
