Star survey

Let's be honest, most of my decorating decisions leave the Fella a little perplexed. He is often confused...when two weeks to a month later he notices something new.

This he couldn't miss.

Front porch April 2010

Tobacco stick star

It's a star made of tobacco sticks. Tobacco sticks from my grandparent's tobacco barn. I've seen these at antique and junk stores for prices that make my eyes bug out. Okay- so anything over five dollars makes my eyes bug, but I digress.

My Spring spruce up is in full swing. I finally dug out these old sticks and my trusty hammer and nails and voila- a star. Price- zero. And that folks, is my budget for this year's spruce up.

I think it's a friendly little star. Well, not exactly little.

The Fella is concerned our neighbors (although few and far between) might think we are up to some sort of cult activity.

So, I am taking a survey of experts- that would be you. What do you think of the tobacco stick star?

Note- the front porch is a work in progress. I am scrubbing and painting and rearranging. I will keep you posted on the progress. And that's Mo in the window.

I'd only worry if the star pointed down as in occult practices. Stars are pretty common here in the Lone Star State.

Like ladyhawthorne, I'm in Texas and around here stars are everywhere!

I love it, it looks perfect on your wonderful porch! I crack up when I see what people are willing to pay for old tobacco sticks too, but that's just because I grew up with them all around! And I also love Mo!

I don't know anything about tobacco sticks...maybe tobacco isn't grown in Missouri? I don't know...but there are stars everywhere here and I LOVE yours. It's perfect on your porch!

I think it's wonderful! And I see a lot of home decor items involving stars, so it seems perfectly harmless to me.

Yeah, I was going to say here in Texas you see stars everywhere. I guess it isn't such a common practice everywhere else. I think it's lovely!

Tell hubby that it is a YES! I have never heard of a tobacco stick (another thing learned in blogland...what do you use them for?) Very good craft girl - let it shine!

Ok, I had to stop laughing before I could comment, too funny!

I vote yes and I LOVE THE PORCH, THE STAR, I'm swooning over the whole package! On my list for the farmhouse, a farmhouse porch!

I think it might be a bit big but I would keep it up and see if it grows on your fella. I like the history of the sticks.

I'm lovin' it - and I'm a fellow Virginian so I know it'll be OK in the Old Dominion State.

It didn't bring to mind any cult...to me, it's a star and it looks lovely, country...and I have the metal 3-D stars. Kind of the same idea! I love it and think it's clever! Aren't husbands funny!?!

I'm sorry but I think it looks creepy. I like stars, I have stars, I would like more stars... but this one.. I don't know what it is.. it's a little pentagram-ish.

I LOVE it! I might have to copy that idea; remember imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Being from Texas, the lone star state, people decorate with stars quite a lot, so nobody thinks anything negative about it, we just all think "they love Texas".

I love the star and Mo and I would sit on your porch anytime!

I like it, don't get me wrong but I think it needs a little something extra like maybe if it was wrapped in some pretty vines/flowers or white lights maybe? By itself, it kind of creeps me out. No offense!

Love it! I want one!

I think you're creative and fun and only two people have to like it, you and the fella! I happen to think it's cute and whimsical...but must admit, I think the kitty in the window is cuter! ;)

OK, I'm following now! And as soon as I finish this comment I'm calling my Dad to see if he's still got some old tobacco sticks in the barn. I hope so, but he's been baling for so long. I already used all his old tobacco cottons to make Halloween ghosts that were that talk of the neighborhood!

I think it looks great on your porch. My place not so much, but here where you have it, it's quite nice actually!
