Meet my home and the little store...

Some of you may have seen this post before- it is from July of last year. A lot of you have been asking about the little farm and the old store and I thought it would be fun to share this again.

One day last fall my husband and I left our little apartment for a Saturday morning drive. And we found this...

We pulled into the driveway and really never left. I met the old house around 9am and a mere twelve hours later I was driving back to my apartment with an offer on a house. It was not an easy journey- anyone and everyone who has become a homeowner knows exactly what I mean. But she is ours now and we love her and are so proud of her. I still have to pinch myself a little when I pull into our driveway each night. It's ours...all ours. Our 6 acres, our house, our barns, our general store, our yard, our trees....all ours. It's the best feeling. It may not seem like much to some folks but it's our whole world. It's the little white farm house that I always wanted and even more.

I would also like to formally introduce you to our General Store, circa the 1930s. It is known around here as the Poore Store. We joke we now live in the poor house. The house was in the Poore family its entire life before it became ours. In fact, the store was built first and the family lived there and ran the business. The house was built a few years later.

Picture me under that old tin roof with my face pressed against the windows. They didn't want to show us the store. It was not considered an asset to the property, just an old out-building. I insisted I go inside. It's a real treasure. We hope to put it back together again, return it to it's glory.

I hope that answers some of your questions. Note that these photos were taken shortly after we moved in November of 2007. I'll be back tomorrow with some fun vintage finds- the yardsales in the area continue to be kind to me. Just like you guys- so kind to me. Have a wonderful day!

P.S. I am feeling both efficient and beautiful today. The blahs seemed to have passed.

I'm glad the blahs have passed.

You know how much I love that store. I could live there! Seriously. I'm surprised that the real estate people didn't "get it" when it comes to the stores charm. I can see the bread sign on the screen door and hear it close behind a customer as they walk in.

What a wonderful Treasure, and what fun to transform your property and make it come alive. You MUST keep a journal through the process. Cannot wait to see more pictures.

I'm so glad the blahs have passed, Kim! And I'm happy to see the whole lay out of your property. I've tried to visualize it for some time. It would be my heaven on earth as well. What ideas have you got for the old store? It would make a great womens retreat, obviously some sort of store, a guest house. The ideas are limitless! Wish I had it! Yes, still hobbling around with a cane. Probably will be for awhile longer.

What a wonderful story. I'm glad you shared it again so those of us who are new had a chance to hear it. I'm sure you have your hands full with 6 acres and renovations. We have just 1 old acre full of out-buildings and old chicken coops and there is always more to do! It is a labor of love.

I'm so glad you found a home that is a dream for you come true! I know the feeling! I would love to have as much land as you have! (And I know all about the hard part of owning a special old home, too!) You are special people to want to preserve this part of history!
XOXO

I'm so glad you re-shared this story because I missed it the first go-round. I think your farm is a little piece of heaven. It will be fun to see what you do with the store, and I love what you've already been doing to your home. It's neat that the old gas pump is still out front too. Poor house--so funny!
