Some Assembly required...

Today is the day that I pull up to work and my building is surrounded my news vans.

I wish I could tell you that something exciting was happening but this actually happens every year in January. Why? The Virginia General Assembly.

They're back.

And I work next door.

See, here is the Capitol of Virginia taken from my office window. This is the rear view- it's much more impressive from the front.

Why am I telling you guys about this? Well, for several reasons. The first- my job is connected to the legislature in a lobbying sort of way although I am not a lobbyist myself. Tonight our offices will be filled with politicians and their staff. We will entertain them until the Governor's State of the Commonwealth speech. Second- this could hamper by beloved work day blog time. That's the biggest reason, right?

The last thing- well, maybe I take all this for granted and it really is exciting. I certainly count myself lucky to have a great job. And I bet there are a few of you that would love to come and walk around and feel the vibe of it all. It is sort of fun when you are sitting in the park having lunch and black trucks pull up and the governor hops out. Or you find yourself on an elevator filled with lobbyists and their agendas. Or your office becomes a legislative war room with pizza boxes scattered about.

I am going to look at it all through new eyes today. I am going to enjoy my view, welcome my temporary neighbors. I am going to forget the stress and long hours the session can bring and count myself lucky to have a job with some Assembly required. The General Assembly that is.

Wow, it sounds like you have an interesting job. I might have a difficult time holding my tongue around lobbyists and politicians. :)

Lobbyists... patooey.... make them all go away!! I'm too outspoken to be around them AND be nice at the same time. Glad you enjoy it though.

That's a great view. It's just a shame that you drive downtown every day to see it. Ha!

I'm impressed ... sounds like you have a great job. Politics is direction that I am seriously considering for the future. It's nice to know someone who is a little closer in the loop.

Hello daughter:>). Is it that time already? I am sure no one is monitoring your blog to closely, but just in case SSG stops by we will not let it be known that you do wear a dark black suit and walk along beside a certain long black limo. Sorry SSG...no can tell who is in that limo...top secret...but this I can let you in on. BellaDella...not really her name...had no problems with the physical part of the test what-so-ever. Some gals got it and some don't. She is just a chip off the old block...hey, but I didn't say what kind of block...sorry, here I go talking in code again...comes from years of working with the Big Guys! code@#(*&^%)(*@#$ stat. Unavailable to further notification. out over under and gone.

If you see me down town just remember...don't recognize me...I will not answer to the name of mom. Just ignore any and all that you see me do as it is not I.

If you by some chance hear the name Cool Breeze, Big Hair Envy, Country Girl on the Chesapeake Bay and Spartacus wore a skirt don't be scared or worried as they are just part of the mob...sorry I meant the blog. They are harmless, but at times can get a little rowdy and have to be taken under hand. No big problem though, I just pull out the old whip and they shape up. Calm down Spartacus...I will return your whip...Chill out with a lemon drop:>).

Oh. My. Holy. Baby. Jesus. Your mom just made me spit out some of my WINE (you will pay for that woman).

I love that the Bella Fam is going to be whooping it up this weekend, but I. Don't. Remember. Getting. An. Invite!

(Kim, I can keep a secret. Who was in the limo? And please for all of the love that is holy, tell SSG if there was any Secret Service.)
