Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween to all of my friends out there. I hope you guys have a wonderful day filled with more treats than tricks and follow it up with a fantastic weekend.

As I drove into work this morning I was thinking of Halloweens as a kid. You know we never went to a stranger's house trick-or-treating, nor did we walk anywhere. I grew up in the country where houses were few and far between. Mom and Dad would load us up and drive us to the homes of family and friends. In and out of the car. It was especially fun the year my cousin dressed as rubik's cube and we had to pry her out of the backseat of our old Nova and then shove her back in. We weren't quite into the 4-door sedan era.

In high school I hosted an annual Halloween party that became the event of the year. Most of my friends lived in "neighborhoods." A drive to our house was often mentioned with some reference to Children of the Corn. You know it's good when your invitation includes directions that say turn off the paved road onto the dirt road. We had a bonfire and a wagon ride to old Uncle Wankus' house. Haunted house, that is. We roasted marshmallows and ate cupcakes and generally ran around like kids, big kids. Fun times.

What are your favorite Halloween memories?

I like this post. It made me smile.

When I grew up things were so different at Halloween than they are today. We'd run in packs, all over the neighborhood, never a parent with us. Never a fear of tainted candy or strangers' doors. Such innocence back then.

I was just talking to Jason about being a kid at Halloween and what we used to do. Toilet paper, eggs....ha! My 15yr old is planning to go to some sort of "party" tonite, or so she thinks. At 15 I wasnt thinking about boys and parties, I was about trick or treating and having fun. Things sure have changed, 15 wasnt all THAT long ago for me...15 years ago!

I always love your posts and especially this one...yes, it made me smile.

I loved going "trick or treating" at my Mutti's house (my german grandma) because she ALWAYS had those cute little paper treat bags and spritz cookies with halloween colored sprinkles for us. A few marizapan treats were also given and I can still remember those.

I haven't thought about that in years. Thanks.

My favorite memory of Halloween is making our own costumes. We would plan for weeks, and always seemed to come up with something cool. The box of dress-up clothes was a true treasure when it came time to go Trick-or-Treating! The store-bought stuff just wasn't the same:(

Interestingly enough, I couldn't find anything I liked at the store THIS YEAR either. My mad costume skills kicked in to gear, and I made my own!!!

Happy Halloween!

I remember my mom made me and my little sister clowns one year---she actually made the costumes...I will have to see if I can find the photo. They were cute but I am sure that they would be dorky now---remember the way the hard plastic masks felt on your face if you were like wonderwoman or batman with the little holes so you could breath. LOL

One of my most vivid Halloween memories was from when I was dating DH. He used to tease me and say he'd never marry or have kids. So we are driving along on Halloween and there were kids running in the street and he said "when I have kids, they won't be running in the street" LOL Gotcha!!

How great those times sound. I grew up an urbanite, so we ran around the neighborhood and throughout. Never a fear of tainted candy or strangers. We still got home made popcorn balls, cookies, and candy apples. Miss those times!

Awww that's such a great memory! I think one of my favorites was when we'd ride our horses on a moonlit trail ride. There were a few "spooky" places--gravestones and stuff like that in this big nature preserve across the street from our stable. So we'd scare ourselves and then come back and tell ghost stories in the barn. Hope you're feeling better!
