Stairway to heaven...

Our day trip to South Boston (the one in Virginia) included a stop by the old family homeplace. My mom's grandparents lived here and raised 13 children. Of course I happily snapped away with my camera knowing I would want to share the visit with all of you. It's a beautiful old home with a grand staircase in the entryway. Mom says the kids used to slide down the old banister.

No one lives in the beautiful old house, however it remains in our family. It makes me sad that it sits empty. Well, not really empty. I didn't take many pictures of the inside because it is filled to the brim and being used mostly as storage. Oh gosh, you wouldn't believe the potential it has- rooms filled with light and high ceilings...big windows, fireplaces. The old bedrooms upstairs have those slanted ceilings I love. And that stairway, a stairway to heaven, a dream. It's so beautiful. I hope that one day someone makes it a home again and restores the old place to her glory.

Tomorrow I will show you some of the scenery from the old farm. It's so beautiful they once filmed part of a movie there. It starred Richard Gere and Jodie Foster. Can you guess the movie?

Such a beautiful home! I love old homes like this. My grandparents lived in one simaliar to this in Leary ga. The bedrooms had fireplaces in each one of them. Real high ceilings and all. Wrap around porch. It was only one story but so huge. Big formal dining room, 5 bedrooms, three bathrooms, sun room, den, big foyer. Claw bathtubs...you know what I am talking about...Probably like your family's home. Oh I wish they made homes like they used to...

Ok, I promise you and BHE that I'll move to the East Coast if I can live in that house ; ) Thanks for all of your sweet comments while I was away! I mailed your postcard from Provence, so I'm sure I'm back before it will get to you, but rest assured it's on the way!
