The recipe for the perfect birthday...

Saturday was my wonderful Dad's 61st Birthday!!! Happy Birthday Dad! We celebrated in our favorite way...eating! Eating was followed by our second favorite thing...sitting on the back porch- um I mean carport. I think it was a great day and I know dad would agree.

Here is the menu-
Grilled pork chops
Mashed potatoes
Wild rice
Pasta salad
Vidalia Onion Casserole
Pineapple Dressing
Butterbeans
Corn
Coleslaw
Cucumbers and tomatoes
Rolls
And of course...CAKE!
Oh wait- I forgot the homemade salsa and chips and dip.

It must have been a big party- you say? Nope, 6 of us again. We are firm believers in leftovers. Actually, first we are big believers in second and third helpings! I am still full this morning. Here are some photos from Dad's perfect day. Photos courtesy of my new blogtoghrapher- Mom.

This is what happens after you eat all of that...My dad and little brother "relaxing." Yes, my brother can sleep anywhere.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Recipe
(It really tastes like a cookie!)

Ingredients:
1 pkg Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake Mix (I used the kind that calls for a stick of butter)
1 (3.4 oz) pkg Vanilla instant pudding and pie filling
1 (12 oz) pkg Semi-sweet chocolate chips

Baking Instructions:
1- Preheat oven to 350 and grease and flour 10-inch Bundt pan
2- Combine cake mix ingredients according to box directions and add package of pudding.
3- Stir in bag of chocolate chips.
4- Bake 50-60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
5- Cool in pan for 25 minutes.

Icing:
Place 1/2 cup (or more if you are like me) frosting in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 10-15 seconds and stir until smooth. Drizzle over cake.

We recommend serving with vanilla ice cream! You won't be disappointed!!! Happy Birthday, Dad. Love you!

Happy Birthday Kim's dad! That picture of them sleeping cracked me up : ) And that menu looks delicious! Hope you had a good rest of the weekend too--although by the looks of it, did you spend it all in the kitchen?

I live close enough that you could have invited me over for the birthday dinner. At least for cake!!!! The menu sounds like something we would cook up - don't want anyone to go away hungry...or NOT STUFFED!!! It's a country thing:)

I LOVE the way you put down a little blankie for your brother to take a nap! hahahahaha!

Happy Birthday to your dad!!! Your buffet of yumminess makes me hungry!!! I think your car port turned patio was the bestest idea! So very useful! In the winter it can return to protecting cars from snow! Glad you had a great weekend!
Hugs!

Don't you just LOVE that old farm sink/cabinet? I used to rent a house that had one. I loved it too! I think that if ever there was a tornado or some bad storm that you could hide in that thing and be safe. I think mine was so heavy that the whole house could blow away and that thing would still be there. The thing weighs a ton. Atleast, mine did. I just love your farm. Glad I happened upon your blog :)
